The Alliance for Police Accountability (APA) is a grassroots organization dedicated to criminal justice reconstruction, specializing in community/police relations. Our mission is to bring the community, institution stakeholders and government officials to a working relationship and put an end to racial profiling, police brutality, and injustice within the criminal legal system through advocacy, education, and policy!

Our History

Alliance for Police Accountability was birthed March of 2010 after Jordan Miles was assaulted by three undercover police officers in Pittsburgh, PA. For the last ten years, Alliance for the Police Accountability has been on the front lines fighting for human rights in Pittsburgh and throughout our nation. Not only has APA advocated for those victims of police brutality, we have advocated for policy change of the City of Pittsburgh Police MOU. Our commitment to putting accountability back into the criminal legal system through advocacy, education and policy has made this organization a key voice in sustainable policy change within the city of Pittsburgh.

We worked on many campaigns which addressed several areas in the criminal legal system. Including but not limited to education, transportation and housing. In 2017, APA worked closely with community stakeholders in ensuring the Woodland Hills School District removed Police Officers from the classrooms which was done at the start of the 2020-21 school year. Advocating that students should not be treated as criminals when displaying common adolescent behaviors.  APA continues to fight for equitable policy to ensure the youth are treated as such and are not fed into the school to prison pipeline.
